The purpose of the Temple Sinai web site is to foster communication within the Temple community and to provide information about the Temple and its programs to the public. We want to use the Internet to help achieve our mission of building a "Family of Families" in which members are spiritually fulfilled, educated in the Reform Jewish tradition, and committed to Judaism from generation to generation. The Temple Internet use provides electronic mailing lists to improve communication within the Temple community, as well as a place for the Temple, its committees and its members to post relevant information. The guidelines below should help achieve these goals.
These guidelines are meant to be broad and long-range, while at the same time, subject to revision. Currently, some functionality (e.g. discussion groups), which would call some of the guidelines into play, is not available. As that functionality is proposed, it will be subject to approval by the Board of Trustees to be sure it fits with the Temple's goals and objectives.
Membership use of these facilities requires that individuals act responsibly. Users must respect the rights of others, observe relevant laws, regulations, and contractual obligations, and respect the integrity of the computer network and related physical resources. Recipients of private messages regarding Temple should carefully consider the content and the context before forwarding those messages to others. Email correspondence should be treated with the same privacy and confidentiality as one would any other communication.
All official Temple communication, such as Temple newsletters and event promotion material, must be approved by the Administrator or his/her delegate, before being posted or distributed. Committee Chairs are encouraged to conduct committee communication by email provided (1) a mechanism is in place to provide members who do not receive or desire email the same information by another method and (2) all committee email messages intended to be sent to the entire committee are copied to office@templesinaipgh.org
The Web site will be organized and maintained by a Webmaster hired by the Temple, under the direction of the Board of Trustees. The Webmaster will have responsibility for insuring that material placed on the site is in accordance with these guidelines. The Temple has the right to remove illegal or inappropriate material from postings or message lists.
Our electronic communication is designed to foster community within the Temple. To achieve this goal:
- Messages sent to other users should always identify the sender (full name should be used).
- You should not send anonymous messages or use someone else's account to send messages.
- You should not continue to send messages to users if those users request that you remove them from a mailing list. Failure to comply may constitute harassment.
- You shouldn't harass, intimidate, libel or slander other users.
- You shouldn't send or post obscenities, pornography or material that promotes prejudice or other inappropriate material.
Private information mailed or placed on the Internet should be considered private, even if technology can't always achieve this standard. To achieve this:
- You should not read messages addressed to others, unless they are explicitly public.
- You should not access confidential information from files that may be inadvertently publicly available.
- You should not post or forward private or confidential material.
Because electronic information is volatile and easily reproduced, respect for the work and personal expression of others is especially critical in computer environments. Therefore:
- You shouldn't interfere with or modify postings that others have made without their permission.
- You shouldn't illegally copy or exchange copyrighted material.
Temple resources are provided for purposes consistent with our mission. Therefore:
- Do not use the Temple web site and mailing lists for private business purposes.
No one should deliberately attempt to degrade or disrupt system performance or to interfere with the work of others.
