Becoming Bar and Bat Mitzvah: A chronology


The following is based on a typical student. Your exact dates may vary.

March of 5th grade Dates for Bar or Bat Mitzvah mailed out.
May of 5th grade Orientation meeting for parents (students welcome but not required).
Spring semester of 6th grade B’nai Mitzvah Workshop. Bar or Bat Mitzvah as a family experience. Parents and child required.
At least 6 months before Bar or Bat Mitzvah B’nai Mitzvah class (one semester course). Required for child. Parents attend several of the sessions.
Service requirement during 6th grade 4 Friday night services and 4 Shabbat morning Sanctuary services at Temple Sinai. Parents must attend 2 Shabbat morning services.
5 to 6 months before Debbie Haber sends you a schedule of David Haviv and Rabbi Ende appointments.
4 to 5 months before Parents' meeting with Phyllis Weinkle, Executive Director.
4 to 5 months before 20 weekly meetings with the tutor, David Haviv.
2 to 3 months before Family meeting with Rabbi Gibson.
1 to 2 months before Student’s private meeting with Rabbi Gibson.
2 months before Write D’var Torah with Rabbi Ende.
1 month before 15 minute Hebrew check with Rabbi Ende.
1 week before Final rehearsal with David Haviv.
Thursday before Final rehearsal with Rabbis.
Friday night before Lead a portion of the service.
Shabbat morning MAZAL TOV!!!
