Solidarity at Sunrise: Prayer in Support of Women of the Wall & a Light Breakfast to Go

Tuesday, March 16 · 7-8 AM, Aaron Court, Rodef Shalom

Passover has got to be my favorite holiday. I love the foods (OK, maybe not so much of the matzah) and the seder, but most importantly, the coming together of friends and family. The Haggadah tells an amazing story of the struggles and triumphs; doubts and discoveries; and followers, leaders and motivators. We can often see in ourselves and our own lives how we’ve been motivated to change, lead to a new path, or just be reassured that things will work out for the best.

The WoTS programming group has taken their role as leaders and mentors very seriously by developing activities and events that help us to make better choices, learn new approaches to common issues, and enrich our minds, bodies and spirits with the vast information that surrounds us.

Last month they brought in Dr. Melissa McNeil from Magee Hospital to talk to all women about “Preventive Health in Women: Missed Opportunities.” This program really spoke to all of the women in our Temple Sinai family of families. We hope you were able to attend.

This month they will be bringing Dr. Dvora Weisberg to talk to ALL of the Women of Temple Sinai along with our sisterhood friends from around the city during our Kol Isha event on March 13. She will be talking with us about the Torah through the feminist lens. Dr. Weisberg is Temple Sinai’s Scholar in Residence for the entire weekend. You’ll have several opportunities to hear her, learn from her, and discuss with her various topics during the time she is here. The Kol Isha program is special as this event is devoted to the women of Temple Sinai. (more information abut the weekend).

Dr. Weisberg was one of the women who contributed to writing The Torah: A Women’s Commentary, an award-winning publication of the Women of Reform Judaism. You will certainly not want to pass up this opportunity to meet with all the other women in the congregation as we explore the Torah from a different perspective.

At the end of the month, and just in time for Passover, we bring back Sara Stock Mayo for a night of music. Our Third Annual Cabaret will be on Saturday, March 27. Sara and her amazing accompanist, Douglas Levine, have been hard at work putting together a diverse selection of music that will again show us how blessed we are to have such a talented and dynamic voice in Sara, our cantorial soloist. I do hope you’ve cleared your calendar for this event! Reservations are required by March 19.

So as the snow melts, and the leaves return, and as we begin to gather with friends and family, WoTS hopes you’ll take advantage of these two amazing events to gather with Sinai’s family of families.

For any questions about these events, please contact Gillian Meieran at drmeieran@verizon.net. As always you may call me at 412-421-9026 or suzan1115@gmail.com for questions, comments, suggestions on these events or how to get involved in WoTS.

Have a wonderful Passover.
