Gerrymandering and the Constitutional Crisis: Relationship & Remedies
Is there a connection between or among the contentious state of American politics, the demographics of congressional districts, and alleged or actual ethics conflicts of the president, his family, and numerous administration officials and campaign advisors? Three distinguished panelists will help us answer the question.
David Ehrenwerth, Esq., is a Temple member and a partner in the law firm of K&L Gates. From 2010-12, he served as Associate Commissioner of the United States Public Buildings Service and was previously Regional Administrator of the General Services Administration, which manages and preserves federal government buildings through leasing and related activities. In those capacities, David dealt extensively with elected officials in Washington. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and the University of Pittsburgh.
The Hon. Dan Frankel has represented the 23rd Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives since 1999, which includes the City of Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Greenfield, Oakland, Shadyside, and Squirrel Hill. Dan chairs the House Democratic Caucus and also serves on the Rules Committee. In those capacities, he has seen how Pennsylvania’s congressional districts have been drawn following the 2000 and 2010 censuses. Dan is a graduate of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government’s Certificate Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government, and of Kenyon College.
Wesley Pegden, Ph.D., is an associate professor of mathematics at Carnegie Mellon University who has done extensive computer modeling related to the creation of congressional district boundaries based on objective criteria. He earned his doctorate at Rutgers University and holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago.
