The Greater Pittsburgh Jewish Clergy Association (GPJCA) proudly presents Introduction to Judaism.

Intro to Judaism (ITJ for short) is a 25-week course, split into 3 units, that explores the literature, history, traditions, and spiritual foundations of the Jewish religion. The course welcomes anyone interested in growing in their knowledge of the Jewish faith who would like a nuanced, egalitarian, and beginner-intermediate course on Judaism. Teachers are drawn from Pittsburgh-area rabbis and cantors. Classes take place on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 4 pm ET, and are offered in hybrid format - both online and in-person.

The first unit begins October 15, 2023. If you are interested in joining the class, you can register now. A student that misses the beginning of a unit can join at the start of the next unit, and can complete the full course by taking the units in order; i.e. a person who signs up in advance of unit 2 will then proceed to unit 3 and conclude the class by taking unit 1. We will take a brief break over the summer, at which time we will offer a learn-to-read-Hebrew class.

Cost is $360 per person/$400 per couple for all three units. Tuition fee covers 25 sessions and the text book On One Foot. For those that have financial need, aid is available.

To sign up, click here to register.

If you have questions, please contact mgoodman@bethshalompgh.org for more information.

TEMPLE SINAI CIVIC ENGAGEMENT 2020

Temple Sinai's Tikkun Olam Center in concert with Union of Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Religious Action Center (RAC) is developing a variety of civic engagement activities in support of three goals for the November elections:

  1. Ensure that 100% of eligible congregants nationally are registered to vote and do so;
  2. Combat voter suppression especially among minority voters and among inactive or unregistered voters in six states: Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina, Georgia and Arizona; and,
  3. Engage young/student voters. Pennsylvania is a targeted state of importance for RAC as well.

The Tikkun Olam Center is planning activities in each of these areas. If you are interested in getting involved, please respond by clicking here and filling out the Google form.

REMEMBER: Please check your voter registration status and apply for your mail-in ballot at: www.votesPA.com. This is a  convenient website for all election-related issues.
