10:00 AM - 12:00 PMFalk Auditorium & Leebov SanctuaryHow the Israel-Hamas War Has Affected Interfaith Relations in Pittsburgh
Join us for a delicious Israeli-style brunch featuring shakshuka (poached eggs in a spiced tomato sauce), fresh vegetable salad, hummus, baba ghanoush, warm pita, challah, yogurt, mixed fruit, labneh (cheese made from strained yogurt), and babka followed by a thought-provoking discussion.
Rabbi Emeritus Jamie Gibson spent much of his 32 years as Temple Sinai’s senior rabbi building bridges into the Muslim and Christian communities. He will discuss the effects of the Middle East conflict on relationships among clergy in those communities and on the communities of faith they lead. Questions Rabbi Gibson will address include:
- Why has the conflict altered interfaith relations?
- What are the historical precedents for this set of circumstances?
- What does Jewish tradition teach us about overcoming a situation like this one?
- How can we repair the breach, collectively and individually?
- How do we reconcile our belief in social justice with the knowledge that others wish us anguish or harm because of our heritage?
- How realistic is it to believe that, someday, things will return to how they were before October 7, 2023?
Cost: $15 in advance. (Register below by Wednesday, December 11 at 12 PM)/$18 at the door (check or cash)
