“If words are the pen of the heart,” taught Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, “then song is the pen of the soul.” Song carries the soul upwards, teaches Cantor Laura Berman, through instrument, voice and harmony. On just about every Friday evening, all three clergy can be found on the bimah with guitars in their hands, a song in their hearts and the congregation singing along with them.
