Kids Tikkun Olam: Penguin Watch (online)

Sunday, January 16, 2022 14 Sh'vat 5782

3:30 PM - 5:00 PM

Count penguins, chicks and eggs in far away lands to help scientists understand their lives and environment.

Welcome to Antarctica and the Southern Ocean!

Penguins—globally loved, but under threat. Research shows that in some regions, penguin populations are in decline; but why? Click "get started" to begin monitoring penguins, and help us answer this question. With over 100 sites to explore, we need your help now more than ever!

WORDS FROM THE RESEARCHER: "The nice thing is that anyone older than about 5 years old can contribute to penguin conservation. Choose whether you would like to count aerial photos or time lapse cameras. Be warned it is mildly addictive, but it’s for a great cause!"

How does it work? Click here to visit the Penguin Watch website at your chosen time and day. You can count penguins for as long as you like. Click here for a fun worksheet.

Send photos of your kids counting penguin, chicks, and eggs to Sunshine Figlio along with how long they counted and how many of each. All kids who participate will receive a penguin watching certificate, AND the kid who spends the longest amount of time penguin counting will receive a stuffed penguin made of recycled materials! The winner will be announced on Tuesday, March 1!

Questions? Contact Sunshine Figlio at Sunshine@TempleSinaiPGH.org or (412) 421-9715 ext. 121.
