Farewell Memory: Florence & Toby Chapman

When my first granddaughter was born we had her named in the synagogue at a Friday night service about a month or more after her birth. It was a beautiful moment but her two uncles (my sons ) were not there since they live out of town and had come to Pittsburgh immediately after her birth.

So when her sister was born two years later and again my sons came right after she was born, I asked Rabbi Gibson if he would come to my house and do a private naming ceremony at which the family could be present. Our “never say no” Rabbi accommodated me and the family which meant a lot to us all.

I thanked him then and thank him again today.

Jamie, that baby was the teenager we met two years ago in the Ein Gedi Reserve parking lot when Toby and I were in Israel with you and she was traveling with the Diller students.
